Leamington 1 - 3 Truro City
Truro City returned to Zamaretto Southern league premier division action with a 3-1 victory at Leamington on Saturday, writes Rhod Mitchell.
It was a month ago that City last played a league match and that ended in a 5-3 home defeat by Chippenham.
Since then they have been involved in cup matches which has seen them slip down the league table.
City manager Sean McCarthy fielded the side that had started last week's FA Trophy win over Thatcham Town with the same substitutes on the bench.
And before a crowd of 640 at Leamington's New Windmill ground, City could hardly have started the game any better with two goals in the opening 11 minutes,
The first came in the third minute when Andy Taylor pounced on a defensive mix-up in the home defence to sidefoot the ball home from close range.
And eight minutes later Scott Walker's deep cross from the left was headed back by Andy Taylor into the path of Les Afful who tucked the ball just inside the post to make it 2-0.
It was a lead City held fairly comfortably until three minutes into the second half when, from a Truro corner, the home side broke quickly with top scorer Mark Bellingham turning and shooting past Martin Rice.
For a spell City had to defend at full stretch but weathered the storm on a cold afternoon in Warwickshire.
Barry McConnell and Walker then both missed presentable chances before City managed the crucial third goal when Stewart Yetton was brought down in the area and McConnell duly dispatched the inevitable penalty.
City then ran down the clock to maintain their unbeaten away league record and so move up to fifth in the table ahead of this Saturday's home match against Halesowen Town.
