CITY HELD BY LEAMINGTON

Truro City 2 - 2 Leamington

City's long wait for a home Zamaretto Southern League premier division win goes on after they twice surrendered the lead at Treyew Road on Saturday.

It is now more than five months since City supporters have seen their team win a league game at home.

They will hope to end that miserable run when they entertain struggling Hemel Hempstead Town on Tuesday evening (7.45pm).

Manager Steve Thompson continued his changes to the squad by including midweek signings Andy Lindegaard and Aaron Brown in a new-look defence.

Lindegaard, 29, has just been released from his second spell at Thompson's former club Yeovil Town, while big defender Brown, 26, was released by Burton Albion last month.

The game started in explosive style with City winning a penalty with just 42 seconds on the clock.

Andy Watkins cut in from the left, with the visitors appealing in vain that the ball had gone out of play and as he surged into the area was brought down by keeper Chris Kiely for a blatant penalty.

Barry McConnell made no mistake planting the spot kick into the bottom right hand corner to give City a dream start.

Stung by such a disastrous opening the visitors, encouraged by a sizeable support, pushed for an equaliser.

The division's top scorer Mark Bellingham went close to his 23rd goal of the season heading over from a long throw, while defender Gary Knight should have hit the target with his header from a corner.

City though started to threaten a second goal with Les Afful causing problems down the right though neither keeper was really tested for the remainder of the half.

But it took the visitors less than five minutes after the restart to level the scores with top scorer Mark Bellingham scoring his 23rd goal of the season when he turned and shot low past Martin Rice.

Bellingham though had to leave the field with an injury shortly after.

Truro regained the lad with 20 minutes to go when substitute Marvin Brown scored his first goal for the club, sliding the ball past Kiely after Watkins had flicked the ball on.

But City's hopes of securing that long awaited home win were ended when Leamington substitute Chris Murphy made in 2-2 in the 80th minute with a fine finish after being set up by Richard Batchelor.

Substitute Scott Walker went close to a City winner with a low drive, but in the end a draw was probably a fair result in a poor quality game.

To compound City's disappointment they lost skipper Jake Ash with a nasty ankle injury near the end and he could be out for some time.
