WATKINS DOUBLE NOT ENOUGH

Halesowen Town 3 - 2 Truro City

Two goals from leading scorer Andy Watkins were not enough to save City from their ninth Zamaretto Southern League premier division defeat of the season.

City were hoping to build on their 3-1 midweek win over Hemel Hempstead Town and manager Steve Thompson kept faith with the team which started that game.

But it was the West Midlands side who took the lead after 34 minutes through much travelled former Football League sstriker Tony Thorpe midway through the first half.

And 10 minutes into the second half former Premiership striker Stefan Moore made it 2-0 following a quick break.

But a minute later Watkins gave City hope with his 15th goal of the season only for Moore to restore the home side's two goal advantage when he pounced on a poor back pass to lob Martin Rice after 69 minutes.

City however, didn't give up and Watkins second goal with 16 minutes left set up an exciting finale but the visitors were unable to salvage a point.

They will be hoping for better luck at home to Bashley on Tuesday evening - 7.45pm K.O
