Chairman’s Mid-Season Report

It’s Friday afternoon as I write my notes on board our team coach to Cambridge City.  Well, as always, life never stands still in the football world and especially at Truro City Football Club.

Since August there have been some highs and lows.  We have competed for the first time in our history against three Southern Conference (step 2) teams, and over four matches in the cup competitions.  This includes the replay against Chelmsford City in that ended in a narrow 1-0 defeat, 2 excellent victories and a draw.

Clearly, being up against established, strong and well organised opposition such as Nuneaton, Farnborough, Stourbridge and Chippenham, we have found a level that needs us to step up our game if we are to progress further.  Being a good football team does not necessarily mean you will win matches at this level

As always, I look at the bigger picture when it comes to Truro City Football Club.  Are we on track to accomplish what we have set out to do?  Do we need to change anything?  No, not really.

This season was always going to be a different challenge and I believe we will learn an awful lot about ourselves, and also for the future of Truro City Football Club.  Whatever happens I can assure everyone that no stone will be left unturned in our quest for promotion.

This brings me on to welcoming Steve to the club.  I believe we now have a manager in place that understands and knows what is required to move Truro City up to Conference level (step 1) over the next few years.  You only have to look at Steve’s record to see that the club is in safe hands when it comes to management.  Now it is time to get on with our games, train hard and see where this season takes us.  Positive thinking, desire and togetherness are the attributes we need to achieve our goals.

As for the latest on our plans for new facilities, most of you may have seen the reports in the West Briton.  The club’s aim, as always, is to be self sufficient and to have as many pitches, where all of our players from Under 8’s through to the Ladies and the first team can train whenever required.  The need for excellent facilities for both us and the community is evident, and hopefully this time things will work in our favour.  We cannot be a professional club without these facilities, and even at this level, it is apparent that they are required sooner rather than later.

Our players have to make 200 mile round trips to train and quite frankly, that is unacceptable.

I would like to say a big thank you to all of our supporters and volunteers for their work so far.  A special thank you to Robin Netherton – Chairman of the Supporters Club for his continued efforts.  I look forward to our regular monthly meetings and look forward to welcoming new members, who will enjoy huge benefits at Truro City Football Club.

As always, as your Chairman, I take my role seriously and with great pride and respect for Truro City Football Club.  My aim is simple, to do the best that I possibly can for this football club at all times and as always, Never Say Never!

Your Chairman

Kevin Heaney
